| About the Centre (Dept) : |
|
|
The Centre for Chemical Sciences & Technology will provide highest level and quality of academic education. The main focus of the teaching and research in the department is centered on interdisciplinary themes which have to gain worldwide attention and appreciation.
It covers all the major areas of Chemistry, viz. inorganic, organic, physical and theoretical chemistry & chemical engineering. A sizeable number of students have been carrying out research for Ph.D. degree. The faculty are actively involved in sponsored research projects of contemporary and applied research.
The main areas of research in chemistry include synthetic inorganic chemistry, newer reagents and methodologies, synthetic and mechanistic aspects of organic and inorganic transformations, selective catalytic transformations, structure and property novel polymers, synthesis of natural products, and chemistry of heterocyclics.
The major research areas in chemical engineering include chemical reaction engineering, microwave heating of food samples, environmental engineering, process control, fluidization engineering, modeling & simulation, thermodynamics & heat transfer.
The Centre offers three postgraduate courses (2 years), the courses are offered on regular basis with an intake of 25 for each course.
1. M.Tech ( Chemical Engineering/Chemical Technology ).
2. M.Sc (Chemistry) Specialization in Industrial Chemistry.
3. M.Sc (Chemistry) Specialization in Analytical Chemistry.

Dr.Mukkanti is a Professor of Chemistry and present Director of Institute of Science & Technology, JNTUH, Hyderabad.
He has 25 years of teaching and 32 years of Research Experience.He has published 200 research papers in National and International journals covering the fields of environmental chemistry waste water treatment, solid waste managemnt, organic synthesis, metal complexes studies..
As a Teacher, Prof Mukkanti is a man with outstanding caliber in guiding many students wit their academics and their research projects particulary in the fields of desigining the organic molecules and applications of novel catalysts.His contributions to the fields of environmental chemsitry, the invited lecturers delivered at coveted Universities are outstanding.
He wae head, Center for Environment during the period 2006 - 2008 and was head, Center for Pharmaceutical Sciences during the period 2008 - 2010.He also the present head of the Center for Chemical Sciences and Technology, IST.
He has Organised several national and international seminars, refresher courses, faculty Development programmes in association with executive development programmes in association with several professional bodies and corporate such as A.P Pollution control board etc.
