Dr. Subba Rao is working as a visiting scientist at centre for Biotechnology. His research interests include Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of developing and aging brain with special reference to DNA-damage and its repair. More than 100 research publications in national and international journals and books. His out standing contributions include establishing the link between aging and decreased DNA repair, particularly the base excision repair, in brain. His lab has also identified the locus of defect in DNA repair pathway during aging and restoration of the repair potential in vitro through supplementation of the factors-DNA Polymerase beta and DNA-ligase. Latest findings include the beneficial affects of Dietary Calorie restriction on DNA gap repair and the harmful side effects of commonly used dementia drugs like, Nootropyl and Rivastigmine. Guided 15 students for Ph.D and 12 students for M.Phil apart from many post graduate students for project work.
